Upper Division Clearance
K-8 Teacher Education students must satisfy the following Upper Division Clearance (UDC) requirements before they can take the upper level education courses. Students will receive an email in the spring of their sophomore year notifying them of a sophomore class meeting where they will learn more about UDC.
There are three categories of requirements for clearance: Praxis Core tests, coursework, and GPA. All requirements must be met at least one week prior to the start of the semester for students to be cleared for upper level courses.
Praxis Core Tests
Students must pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test according to the Delaware state guidelines. Please see our Praxis resource page for information about how to register and prepare for these tests in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students may be exempt by ACT or SAT scores.
Coursework
The following General Studies courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C- or better. The list of General Studies courses is available on our Coursework page.
- ENGL 110
- Two of the three science courses
- Two of the three social sciences courses
- MATH 251, 252, and 253
The following education courses must also be successfully completed with a grade of C- or better: EDUC 100, 205, 210, 230, 240/247, 258, and 387.
GPA
The minimum GPA requirement for UDC is 2.60.
