Ed.D. in CTHE Coursework

Students in the Ed.D. in Curriculum, Technology and Higher Education (CTHE) program must earn 54 credits comprising 9 credits of Ed.D. core courses, 15 credits of CTHE core courses, 18 credits of specialization electives, and 12 credits of doctoral thesis. The specific course requirements are listed below.

Ed.D. Core Courses (9 credits)

CTHE Core Courses (15 credits)

• EDUC 860: Curriculum Theory (K-12 emphasis) or EDUC 897: Curriculum Inquiry (emphasizes higher ed)
• EDUC 818: Educational Technology Foundations
• EDUC 665: Elementary Statistics or EDUC 846: Data Analysis for Educational Decision-Making
• EDUC 850: Qualitative Research in Educational Settings
• EDUC 866: EPP Proposal Independent Study with Advisor

Specialization Electives (18 credits)

Doctoral Thesis (12 credits)

CTHE students must take 12 credits of EDUC 969: Doctoral Thesis.

Transfer of Credit

University of Delaware regulations allow the transfer of up to nine credits of previously completed graduate courses from another university, plus up to nine credits of graduate courses taken as a non-matriculated student through the University of Delaware’s Division of Continuing Education. These credits cannot have been previously used to satisfy degree requirements for either a graduate or undergraduate degree at UD or at any other institution. Each transfer request is examined on a case-by-case basis, during the student’s first year, to evaluate whether the course is appropriate and equivalent to University of Delaware graduate work. Coursework more than five years prior to the first semester in which the student will be registered cannot be transferred. Transfer credits do not exempt students from core courses unless the program faculty approve a request for such an exemption.
