March 31 Delachat

This Thursday, March 31 at 8:30 pm, Elizabeth Farley-Ripple, associate director of the School of Education, and Kalyn McDonough, project coordinator for the Center for Research Use in Education (R4S), will host Delachat, a weekly, real-time Twitter conversation among educators, researchers, and parents in Delaware. Interested members of the education community are invited to participate in the chat by tagging their tweets with the hashtag “#delachat.”

Rethinking Research 4 Schools

The focus of Thursday night’s Delachat will be “Rethinking Research 4 Schools.” The conversation will center on the following questions:

• What’s the biggest challenge you face in your classroom or school?
• My go-to resource for finding new strategies is…
• Education research is…
• Is there a piece of education research you find helpful, and why?
• What can education researchers do for you?

Center for Research Use in Education

This focus complements Farley-Ripple’s research in education policy and her recent work to establish the Center for Research Use in Education with co-director Henry May, associate professor in the School of Education. The Institute of Education Sciences and the National Center for Education Research recently awarded Farley-Ripple and May a $5 million grant to establish the center. The center’s overarching goal is to identify the gaps between educational research and practice and to build a relationship between researchers and educators in the community. The center uses the name “Research for Schools” (R4S) as shorthand to emphasize its commitment to schools. “Building the capacity for evidence-based reform is critical to improving teaching and learning in our schools,” said Farley-Ripple. “The center’s research will generate knowledge to better equip educators and researchers to work towards that important goal.” Read more about the Center for Research Use in Education in the recent UDaily article.
