TESL Sample Schedule – Certification Track
Below is a sample two-year plan for students who entered the M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program in Fall 2014 or later and plan on pursuing teacher certification.
Year One, Fall Semester (9 credits)
- EDUC 623: Applied Human Development in the Schools
- EDUC 672: Teaching English as a Second Language
- LING 677: Structure of English
Year One, Spring Semester (12 credits)
- EDUC 740: Literacy Instruction for English Language Learners
- LING 676: Second Language Acquisition
- LLCU 622: Language Syllabus Design
- EDUC 741: Diversity in ESL Classrooms
Year Two, Fall Semester (6-9 credits)
- EDUC 647: Advanced Methods in Teaching ESL
- LLCU 624: Second Language Testing
- EDUC 750: Graduate Teaching Internship (3 credits for students who are on a graduate assistantship) OR EDUC 742: Practicum in TESL (3 credits, optional)
Year Two, Spring Semester (3-6 credits)
- EDUC 750: Graduate Teaching Internship (6 credits or 3 credits for students who completed 3 credits in Year Two, Fall)
