Youth Experiences in Philadelphia Project
Education and Social Policy
Donatus Doe
Donatus Doe is a Ph.D. in Education and Social Policy student at the University of Delaware. His interdisciplinary research analyzes the processes and complexities in youths’ school-to-work transitions, positive youth development, youth agency and school outcomes, examining the role of social policies and programs in addressing poverty and inequality, and civil society organizations’ activism. He is currently investigating how transition programs such as National Service impact on young graduates’ outcomes of civic engagement attitudes, employability
skills, and career readiness.
Prior to pursuing his doctoral degree at UD, Donatus earned a Master of Education degree in Youth, Gender, and Development from the State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies, minoring in Sociology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
He has worked with several community-based organizations, K-12 schools, students, teachers and NGOs in both Ghana and Tanzania to develop and implement programs that support youth positive development and addressing inequalities. His current research assistantship involves using pragmatic research paradigms to understand Youth Experiences in Philadelphia (YEP). The focus explores how young people experience public authority at school and in their neighborhoods.
